Revelation 2: 8 These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again.

…the First and the Last

These words are from Jesus. He emphasizes His eternality, especially in relation to eternal life. He try to mention “I am the begging of your life and I am the end of your life”. That means He is one and only God in our life, there is no other God. It reflects the first commandment to us. 

…who died and came to life again.

Satan brought Death into this world trough sin, we can know that by reading the verse

            Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”.

Jesus Christ wants to overcome this death. So He came into this world He died and resurrected again, because of that He overcame the sin and death. He set us free from sin and He gave the life to us.

Heb-2:14,15 “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery”--that is, the devil.

This only here St. John mentioned “who died and came to life again”.
