Revelation 8:1

Revelation 8:1

Revelation 8:1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.

Really no one knows about, what is the meaning of the silent hours

There are many interpretations for this silent hour
1.      By prophecy of old testament
2.      By Jesus Christ statement
3.      An incident from the old testament
4.      Calculation for half an hour
5.      Some assumption (we leave these assumptions)

1.    By prophecy of old testament

Zechariah 2:10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord.
Zechariah 2:11 And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. And I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you.
Zechariah 2:12 And the Lord will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem."
Zechariah 2:13 Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.
When God is dwelling midst of us we no need to worry about anything (Psalm 27:1). Here also all saved people are came under the shadow of God’s presence
We can see the prophecy of prophet Zechariah (zac 2:10-13) is fulfilling John vision.  In zec 2:11 tells that  “many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day” the same thing we can see in the Rev.7:9 “a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb
Here prophet Zechariah prophesied in zec 2:13 “Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.”  When God’s presents raising midst of us , we have to be a silent what God is going to for us. Here God going pour His wrath against the wicked people and Godless people. So all saved people are keep silent because they are standing in midst of God’s presence.

2.    Now see from Prophet Zephaniah
Here God give the warning his wicked people

Zephaniah 1:6 those who have turned back from following the Lord, who do not seek the Lord or inquire of him."
Zephaniah 1:7 Be silent before the Lord GOD! For the day of the Lord is near; the Lord has prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests.
Zephaniah 1:8 And on the day of the Lord's sacrifice-- "I will punish the officials and the king's sons and all who array themselves in foreign attire.
Zephaniah 1:9 On that day I will punish everyone who leaps over the threshold, and those who fill their master's[1] house with violence and fraud.
Zephaniah 1:10 "On that day," declares the Lord, "a cry will be heard from the Fish Gate, a wail from the Second Quarter, a loud crash from the hills.

Here what we can understand from this prophecy when God is anger against the wicked people all God’s people should be silent. From this verses we can understand

From the
3.    An incident in the old testement

Exod. 14:13-14

4.    Jesus Statement

Jesus come in the night like Thieve in the night Mathew 24:43

Night is represent as silent
In the night time the world will be silent
Actualy the meaning of the silent –
This is talking about the wicked people or godless people or unbelievers of Jesus
Closed brain

5.    Calculation for half an hour

1/48 per day
There are 24 hours in a day, so half an hour would be 1/48 of a day. There are 360 days in a Biblical year and thus 24 hours/1 day = 360 days/1 year. Thus 1 hour = 15 days (360 ÷ 24), and ½ hour = 7½ days (15 ÷ 2).

We, too, follow this tradition by maintaining silence in the Lord’s House to prepare for His presence among us during the Divine Service.
