Revelation Verse 10
Revelation 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's
day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet
1. I was in the Spirit
·
This phrase occurs four times in the Revelation
(1:10; 4:2; 17:3; 21:10).
a)
In the Spirit
That is in vision, John had
passed into a state of prophetic illumination.
Ezekiel explains clearly the
state
Eze 8:3 He stretched out what looked like a hand and
took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and
heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance to the
north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood.
b) … on the Lord's day
Genarly
we understand that, the Lord’s Day means the day when the Lord Jesus will comes
for judgment and punish the antichrist, false prophet and Satan.
Numbers
32:10 …And the Lord's anger was kindled on that day, and
he swore,
saying,
Isaiah
24:21 On that day
the Lord will punish the host of
heaven, in heaven,
and the kings of the earth, on the
earth.
Zephaniah
1:9 On
that day I will punish everyone who leaps over the threshold,
and those who fill their master's[1] house with violence and fraud.
Zechariah
12:9 And
on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
All of us we know that we are living in the grace
period, apostle John wrote this book in 1st century. So, the “Lord’s Day” did not come in 1st
century as well as it has not come yet. So, here the Lord’s Day doesn’t mean the
Day of Judgment If so, what does the Lord’s Day mean? For example we will take
the Independence Day. The Independence Day is the day the people got freedom
from the slavery. Same way our Jesus
Christ came to free us from the bondage of sin. He thought so many things and
he died. Why we accept Jesus as our
redeemer or savior? Because of his resurrection. Just imagine if he would have not respected
his teaching also would have been same like some human leader for example
Gandhi, Buddha etc.,
a)
According to the old
covenant Jews celebrated the 7th day of the week as the Lord’s Day.
.
Numbers
28:25 And on the
seventh day you shall have a holy convocation. You shall not do any ordinary
work.
b) But according to the new covenant which is the Lord’s Day ?
Mark 16:9 Now
when Jesus was risen early the
first day of the week, he appeared first
to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
c)
All four Gospel writer were
conform this
(Matthew 28:1 Now after the Sabbath, toward the
dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to
see the tomb.
And very early in the morning
the first day of the week, they came
unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning,
they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and
certain others with them.
The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early,
when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from
the sepulchre.
d) So, "On
the day called Sunday, the Christians meet together to read the Scriptures, and
prayed together, and administered the Lord's supper."
Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came
together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the
morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. )
c) … and I heard behind me a loud voice
like a trumpet
a) This
noun phrase is used twenty-two times in Revelation and is compared to
·
the
blast of a trumpet,
·
the
sound of thunder,
·
sound
of roaring water.
In
Amos1:2 also we can see “The LORD will roar from Zion”
Amos 1:2. And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and
utter his voice from Jerusalem;.
b) …loud
voice
Here Apostle John heard a
loud voice or big sound. In what situation we will increase our voice? When we are in anger we will increase our
voice (He shouted at me). (example scolding children). The Lord our God is very
much anger. Because that only apostle John wrote “I heard a loud voice”.
c)
…as a trumpet
He mentioned the volume of voice
at the same time he wants to describe the sound with something. That’s
why he expressed the sound like a trumpet
d) Why
God was spoke with loud voice
Exodus
20:18-20
18. And all the people saw the thunderings,
and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and
when the people saw it, they removed,
and stood afar off.
19. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with
us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.
20. And Moses said unto the people, Fear not:
for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that
ye sin not.
e) In Amos and Psalm also we can see
this kind of voice description
·
the
blast of a trumpet,
·
the
sound of thunder,
·
sound
of roaring Lion
Amos
3:8 The lion has
roared; who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken; who can but prophesy?"
Psalm
18:13 The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his
voice, hailstones and coals of fire.
e) May
be you can ask if we hear trumpet voice also we will be afraid?
Amos 3:6.Shall a
trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil
in a city, and the LORD has not done it?
