Revelation 3:2-3

Revelation 3:1 “To¹ the angel of the church in Sardis write the following:²

“This is the solemn pronouncement of³ the one who holds⁴ the seven spirits of God and the seven stars: ‘I know your deeds, that you have a reputation⁵ that you are alive, but⁶ in reality⁷ you are dead.

Revelation 3: 2 Wake up then, and strengthen what remains that was about¹ to die, because I have not found your deeds complete² in the sight³ of my God.

Revelatiom 3:3 Therefore, remember what you received and heard,¹ and obey it,² and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will never³ know at what hour I will come against⁴ you.

1.     Rev 3:1 -> I know your deeds

a.   God knows every activities of the church and it members. We discussed many times in the previous churches.

2.   Rev 3:3 ->remember what you received and heard,

a.   Initialy this church also did the great things. It accepted the Gospel. There is no bible reference who established the chrisanity to in this place but we can understand according to Acts 19:10 St. Paul may by the first person was sow the Christ word to this place. So in initial days this church was strong in faith and other activities. So here Jesus remained those thing to this church.

3.     Rev 3:2 -> I have not found your deeds complete² in the sight³ of my God.

4.   Rev 3:2 -> Wake up then

a.   Lost the sprit

b.   In Rev 3:1 Jesus told about this church “You are dead”

c.   Here dead means not a physical dead. He mentioned the spiritual dead.

d.   Last wee we saw in James 2:26 “WITH OUT SPIRIT IS DEAD”

e.   Anybody can tell I are belongs to Christian community. I am having Christian name, I am every day services and so on. But these are not a qualification for be a perfect Christian. Without Holy Spirit we can’t live a good Christian life. We can give many examples from the bible. With Holy Spirit how the person was, when the holy spirit not there how the person’s life. We can see from Samson’s life, King Soul’s life and Judas’s life etc…

f.    So for each one of us every stage the Holy Spirit guldens is very very important. For example see our Lord and Saviour life. From the birth to end of His life the Holy Spirit guldens was there.

                                                              i.      Jesus Birth - > “MATT 1:18 NOW THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST HAPPENED THIS WAY. WHILE HIS MOTHER MARY WAS ENGAGED TO JOSEPH, BUT BEFORE THEY CAME TOGETHER, SHE WAS FOUND TO BE PREGNANT THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT”

                                                            ii.      Jesus Baptism -> Mathew 3:16 AFTER JESUS WAS BAPTIZED, JUST AS HE WAS COMING UP OUT OF THE WATER, THE HEAVENS OPENED AND HE SAW THE SPIRIT OF GOD DESCENDING LIKE A DOVE AND COMING ON HIM

                                                          iii.      Jesus 40 Testing - > Mathew 4:1 THEN JESUS WAS LED BY THE SPIRIT INTO THE WILDERNESS¹ TO BE TEMPTED BY THE DEVIL.

                                                           iv.      Jesus Death -> Mathew 27:50 THEN JESUS CRIED OUT AGAIN WITH A LOUD VOICE AND GAVE UP HIS SPIRIT.

g.   So in Jesus life in every stage we are able to the Holy spirit Act.

5.      Chosen people

a.   In the same way God want to give His Holy Spirit to his people.

b.   Mathew :12:18 - >    ​​​​​​​“HERE IS MY SERVANT WHOM I HAVE CHOSEN, THE ONE I LOVE, IN WHOM I TAKE GREAT DELIGHT.  I WILL PUT MY SPIRIT ON HIM, AND HE WILL PROCLAIM JUSTICE TO THE NATIONS.

c.   ACTS 1:2  UNTIL THE DAY HE WAS TAKEN UP TO HEAVEN, AFTER HE HAD GIVEN ORDERS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT TO THE APOSTLES HE HAD CHOSEN

d.   From the above verse we can able understand one thing very clearly. If we want to be a His servant, the Holy Spirit is very very important. Without Holy Spirit we can’t be a part of His church.

6.   strengthen what remains that was about¹ to die

a.   Sardis lost its Spirit

                                                              i.      This Holy spirit only this sardis church was lost. Because of that only Jesus told “You are Dead”. Midist of many of the dead some few people were not dead completely they are dying day by day. That means they are slowly slowly moving away from the spiritual life. Aleast Jesus wants to save them. That’s why He told to this church “WAKE UP  AND STRENGTHEN WHAT REMAINS THAT WAS ABOUT TO DIE.

Revelation 3:3  Therefore, remember what you received and heard,¹ and obey it,² and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will never³ know at what hour I will come against⁴ you.

7.     and obey it, and repent

a.   So Jesus warns this church to obey His word  and repent.

8.     If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief

a.   If anyone not obeyed His word, what punishment He going to give this people also He mention here. He told I will come to you like a thief.

b.   Why Jesus using this term thief?

                                                               i.      What purpose thief will come? To steel the costly things from the house. According to Jesus Christ what is the costliest thing 1 peter 1:7 tells Such trials show THE PROVEN CHARACTER OF YOUR FAITH,¹ WHICH IS MUCH MORE VALUABLE THAN GOLD – gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away² – AND WILL BRING PRAISE³ AND GLORY AND HONOR WHEN JESUS CHRIST IS REVEALED.

                                                             ii.      Ten Virgins – Mathew 25

Mathew 224:42-44 “Therefore stay alert, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have been alert and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
