Revelation 2:20
Revelation 2:20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
1.
But
I have this against you
After mentioning the
good deeds about Thyatira, Jesus has a few things against this church.
Even though it spread the gospel through the charity services in later days
these charity services became commercial.
2. that you tolerate that woman Jezebel who calls
herself a prophetess
2.1 woman Jezebel
Jezebel was the daughter of Ethbaal, King of the
Phoenicians, and one of the wives of Ahab, King of North Israel. Her story is
recounted in 1 Kings and 2 Kings, where she is described as a worshiper of the
god Baal and the goddess Asherah, and as an enemy of God's prophets.
3. … is teaching and seducing my servants to
practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
Not only that in the beginning
there was only one church, that is Roman Catholic Church. It became monopoly in
the world up to 1520 A.D. So for its benefits the Catholic doctrine were
started to mislead the people through some false information, that means
against the word of God were started to thought. As we discussed in the introduction
to Thyatira church, the Catholic Church thought the idol worship, compromised
with local traditions, giving important to the saints than trinity God.
It seems that a women Jesus
identifies as Jezebel and who called herself a prophetess taught His servants
to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols. Jezebel is the
wicked queen of the Old Testament. Like ancient Jezebel, this woman represents
all who bring in false pagan and satanic teachings. Some of the leadership of
the Roman Catholic Church, like Jezebel, brought in Babylonian practices and
these leaders like the Jezebel of the Old Testament had a bloody history of
killing God's people.
