Revelation 3:17,18

Revelation 3:17,18

Revelation 3:17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.

For you say, I am rich
But what actually what is the rich in God’s sight

Psalm 112:1 Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!
Psalm 112:3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.

Who had fear of God and follow His commands those only the rich people in God’s sight. But here this people don’t have the fear of God. They thought about the worldly richness not spiritual richness.

signifies that they have want no need of more because of richness
This church had the wrong perception of itself.  It thought that they needed nothing because they had material goods but Jesus tells them that they really were spiritually poor. Since this church thought it needed nothing, it asked for nothing and it got nothing spiritually

not realizing that you are wretched
means split personality. According to the people they will act they not truthful to any one. Even though St.Paul told in Rom 1:24,25

Romans 7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
Romans 7:25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

Pitiable
God felt sympathy on this people because, this people have nothing even though they are thinking themselves very rich in wealth. But acutely God pity on their spiritual status.

Poor
God mentioning about their spiritual poor

Blind

2 Corinthians 4:4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Many time the heard the word of God through the St.Paul and his disciple their spiritual eyes not open to under the light of the gospel.

Revelation 3:18

Revelation 3:18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.

I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire so that you may be rich
Psalm 21:3 For you meet him with rich blessings; you set a crown of fine gold upon his head.
Gold means blessing and goodness of God. This church doesn’t have that blessing and goodness. That’s why Jesus telling to them to buy blessing and goods from Him.

…white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen
White garments are nothing but truth. Last verse we saw Jesus told to this church you are naked that means the church don’t have truth. So here Jesus telling that receive white garments that help you close you shame. Through this Jesus expect the truthfulness from every one.

…salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see
We might say that it all began with their spiritual blindness.  If you are blind, you can't look at yourself and see that you are wretched, miserable, poor . . . and naked. Mental darkness is worse than a loss of sight; but a loss of spiritual vision is even worse.

Signification of anointing, is inauguration to represent; for the things that were to represent holy things were anointed with perfumed oil, and so were inaugurated.

Exodus 30:25 And you shall make of these a sacred anointing oil blended as by the perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil.
Exodus 30:29 You shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy. Whatever touches them will become holy.

So Jesus here tells receive the anointing oil from me. Then maybe you become holy.
